LASG begins review of Ikeja Model City Plan

The Lagos State Government on Friday said it had begun a review of the Ikeja Model City Plan as part of efforts to create a better state with standard and adequate infrastructure.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Ajao Mutair, the Director, Public Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
It quoted the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Wasiu Anifowoshe, as saying that the state had begun a review of the plan which became operative in year 2010.
Anifowose, according to the statement, said it was necessary to ascertain the level of compliance with the provisions of the plan to improve on its gains.
“The exercise would involve among others, the evaluation of the level of performance in the area of infrastructural provision, conflict of land uses, transportation, sanitation, security, housing, population, recreation and tourism,’’ he said.
The commissioner urged traditional heads, community leaders, residents, traders, corporate organisations and civil societies within Ikeja to cooperate with government officials and other stakeholders for success of the exercise.
He said participation of stakeholders was particularly important during the administration of questionnaire, interactive sessions and other assessment approaches that may be adopted.
Anifowoshe called on ministries, agencies, professional bodies, non-governmental organisations, individuals and other stakeholders to forward memoranda on any matter relating to the review to the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the plan, which covers Ikeja, Ojodu and Onigbongbo Local Government Areas, is meant to transform the capital of Lagos into a functional, safe, and beautiful model city.
The plan is the second Model City Plan presented to the public after the Ikoyi-Victoria Island plan.
It provides designation of high street corridors, preservation and conservation of green areas, development of Opebi Park as the heart of the Model City, creation of activity centres and upgrading of physical infrastructure. (NAN)
