Woman, 53, dies of Lassa fever in  A’Ibom

Lassa virus is transmitted to humans from contact with food or household items contaminated with the excreta or urine of infected multimammate rats

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong, has said that a 53-year-old woman has died of Lassa fever in the state.
Ukpong who said this during the inauguration of a taskforce on the eradication of Lassa fever in Akwa Ibom in Uyo on Monday, said the state had so far recorded three suspected cases.
He added that one of the suspected victims absconded while the third case happened to be a patient that was receiving treatment for HIV.











   
