God will surely help us in this country called Nigeria.
Who is the real enemy of Nigeria!
Today, the 10th of August, 2016. I boarded an Ekeson bus from Kubwa heading to Onitsha.
The driver calm and humble; the journey looked promising. Just about an hour from Lokoja, a man sitting at the persenger side of a Rav4 with Lagos number MUS 111500XD throw a can malt at our windshield as they overtook us. However less than an hundred metres down they were stopped by a police check point. We met up with them and our driver asked "Oga, why you dey stone me na?" And all hell broke loose right in front of the Police Officers. Without allowing our driver out of the car, three men came out of the Rav4 with whips and began to slap, punch, and flog the driver saying: "you think we are civilians, I'll break your windscreen".
Other passengers began to protest the brutality and a particular passenger from the back was trying to calm them down but they shouted him down so he came down from the bus hoping to reason with them but immediately he allighted, two others joined in making them five and pounced on him with blows and sticks picked from nearby bushes. He came down holding his ID card showing he is a Naval officer but they claiming to be army officers would none of it.
He was further brutalised. While we the passengers helplessly watched and the Police stood akimbo. A female passenger with a baby asked the police to intervene and the police shouted her down that what are they supposed to do to soldiers! The trauma was petrifying!!! As if the brutality was not enough, they rushed back to the bus to continue with the seemingly timid driver who still do not understand why they would treat him less than a convicted criminal. They made statements like "you people live in the city while we are in the bush".
Our attempts at placating the situation to forestall further brutality was met with menacing threats causing a blanket of terror on all passengers. Eventually in some reverie of victory they dragged the Naval passenger like some medieval conquest. Our driver tried to follow them lest they kill the already profusely bleeding naval passenger but could never catch up with their insane speed and driving.
At about 10am our enquiries revealed they had gone to the army barracks in Lokoja.
