With four days to go for the deadline of the Biometrics Verification Number (BVN) registration, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has harped on the advantages of the exercise urging Nigerians to key into the policy which intend to check money laundering and any fraudulent transactions in the banking sector.
Director, Corporate Communications Department, CBN, Ibrahim Mu’azu, stated this while addressing stakeholders at a two-day CBN sensitisation fair in Akure, the state capital during the weekend.
Mu’azu who was represented by Mr Babatunde Ogunlaja, an assistant director in the bank, noted that CBN has been kind enough to extend the date for BVN registration.
He said delay should not be a good character and the way to go for Nigerians in term of BVN registration.
Mu’azu said the apex bank place much emphasis on safety of money that is why the bank introduced BVN to tackle the issue of money laundering in the country.
He however called on all bank customers, who are yet to register for their Bank Verification Number (BVN) to do so before the expiration of the deadline, saying there is no need for people to wait until the last day before they go for the registration.
On the purpose of CBN fair, Mu’azu said the apex bank was in the state to enlighten members of the public on the need to key into the policy of the bank.
“Some people are complaining about our policy and not enjoying our programmes, even at all they have challenges, with this programme, and they should know where to go.
“We have been doing some things and we want to do it better, so we want to hear from them, most importantly, we want to educate our people about some of our programmes like offering loans, speaking to the rights of customers, positive services that banks are supposed to render to customers and lot more.”
The event which held at the B.T.O hall in Akure, had in attendance farmers, government officials, representatives and members of different cooperative societies, deposit money bankers, micro-finance operators, physically challenged people who are willing to start Small and Medium Scales business, SMEs operators, representatives of the student community.
