Lagos Govt urges vigilance in Churches, Mosques

In order to forestall terror attacks, the Lagos State Government has called for more security vigilance in churches and mosques, saying this measure is urgently necessary to prevent the religious institutions from becoming soft targets of terrorist attack.
 The call was made by the State Commissioner for Ministry of Home Affairs, Dr. Abudul Hakeem Abdul Lateef, at Alausa during a meeting with leaders of religious institutions as part of efforts by the present administration to improve security consciousness of all residents.
 He implored the religious leaders to embrace the use of metal detectors in their various places of worship for checking every individual before they are allowed into churches and mosques, especially during Sunday worship and Friday Jumat prayers.
 The Commissioner reiterated the support of the present administration towards ensuring equity and fairness in dealings with religious groups, adding that the State Government believes there cannot be peaceful co-existence among people of different religions without justice.
 While noting the important role religion plays in our daily lives, Dr. Abdul-Lateef maintained that only those who are ungodly kill and maim others in the name of God.
 Responding, the leaders of the religious groups in attendance gave an undertaking of their full support and cooperation to the State Government in ensuring peaceful co-existence among religious groups in Lagos State.
