Terrorists using phones, laptops to make bombs – Force HQ

Nigeria Police Force headquarters said it has discovered that Boko Haram terrorists are now using telecommunication gadgets like i-pads, phones or laptops to manufacture bombs.
 The police high command revealed further that its intelligence showed that such items are attractions and needs to the people, and therefore warned Nigerians to avoid the temptation of picking i-pad, phones or laptops not kept by them.
 This is even as the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon E. Arase has approved the use of a newly designed grey and black trouser as the new uniform to be worn by spy police officers nationwide.
 This was contained in the statements issued yesterday by the Force Spokeswoman, acting Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Olabisi Kolawole.
 ACP Kolawole also said the Police Force have completed the arraignment in court of 5 suspects of the October 2 twin bombings in Kuje and Nyanya areas of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.
 The statement said the Inspector General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase, after careful and discreet investigations into the said bombings, directed that the suspects be arraigned at the Federal High Court, Abuja for prosecution.
 Part of the statement reads: “IGP Arase said, the five suspects were arrested at Karamajiji Village, behind National Military Cemetery along Airport Road, Abuja and dangerous bombing tools which include I-pad, Laptop and Phone believed to be used as materials for making bombs were recovered.
“The IGP who said the arrest of the suspects was made possible by the proactive nature of the newly formed Intelligence Response Team, also warned Nigerians to avoid the temptation of picking 1-pad, phones or laptops not kept by them, as terrorists now use these items in manufacturing bombs, knowing its attractions and needs to the people.”
In the meantime, the IGP directed companies using Supernumerary Police, SPY nationwide to stop the use of Police uniform for their operations on or before 1st January, 2016.
 The IGP gave the directive yesterday at a meeting with security managers of companies using SPY Police for their internal security, noting that the measure is part of his administration’s renewed crime fighting strategy aimed at curtailing the activities of criminally minded persons who disguise in police uniform to perpetuate their nefarious activities.
 Also, IGP Arase, in another development, has charged security agencies in the country to collaborate to secure the lives and property of Nigerians.
 Arase gave the charge at the second Security and Justice Sector Institution and Information Coordination meeting in Abuja, yesterday.
 Arase was represented by Mr Danazumi Doma, Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Force Criminal Investigations Department, FCID.
 He said that the meeting was aimed at security agencies strategising and reviewing their operational activities from time to time.
“The essence of the meeting is for the services and the justice sector to rub minds, synergise together so that this country and Nigerians will be safe and secure,’’ he said.
 He charged the participants to be dedicated and contribute meaningfully to the discussion.
 Earlier, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Hashimu Argungu, in charge of Department of Training and Development, said that the meeting was to further deepen the training.
 Argungu represented by AIG. Olufemi Adenaike, urged security agencies to sustain the collaboration to engender effective inter-agency collaboration.
“May I reiterate the position of the Nigeria Police Force that this initiative is a laudable one and it should be sustained by all agencies to engender effective inter-agency collaboration,’’ Argungu said.
 The meeting continued behind closed doors after the opening ceremony.
 Stakeholders at the meeting included representatives of the Nigeria Army, Police, Nigeria Prisons Service, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, among others.
