.As Atletico records massive win
By GEORGE ALUO
UEFA champions league favourites, Real Madrid, failed last night to record a win in Paris against PSG in a game that ended goalless. The encounter was one in which Madrid’s hitman Ronaldo was not given any room to do maximum damage as he was policed all through by PSG’s defence strongman, Serge Aurier.
While Real failed to win away, their city rivals, Atletico Madrid went goalwire at home as they beat FC Astana 4-0. Saul Niguez opened scoring for Atletico in the 23rd minute. Jackson Martinez and Oliver Toress increased the tally in the 29th and 63rd minute only for Astana’s Denys Dedechko to score an own goal with just a minute left of play.
In Manchester, Kevin De Bruyne’s brilliant stoppage-time strike sealed a come-from-behind 2-1 victory for Manchester City against Sevilla , as the Premier League leaders moved to within a point of Group leaders Juventus.
The Europa League holders frustrated and stiffled the hosts inititially, with summer signing Yevhen Konoplyanka opening the scoring on the half-hour mark, stepping onto a pull-back and rifling the ball past Joe Hart.
City refused to let their heads drop, though, and drew level within minutes as the match became even more frantic and end-to-end; superb work from Yaya Toure prompted a goal mouth scramble, with Wilfried Bony’s slash at the ball deflecting off defender Adil Rami and into the back of the net.
The match appeared to be heading for a draw until De Bruyne stepped up to show why City coughed out £55 million on him, collecting the ball down the right flank and steering a venomous left-footed shot into the bottom corner to seal a dramatic victory.
