Scores of workers at the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), in Jos, Pleatueu state on Monday stationed themselves at the gates of the three offices of the fund and sealed them off in anger against the management which they accused of financial infractions.
The workers, who were led by various unions, also commenced a three-day warning strike to press for the implementation of various demands ranging from welfare matters, to accountability in the management of overhead cost by the Director General, Mrs. Juliet Chukka-Onaeko, who they accused of reducing the fund into “a private business.”
The workers, in their numbers arrived at the three offices of the fund as early as 8:30am, chanting anti-Onaeko slogans before sealing them off.
They protested under the auspices of Senior Staff Association of Communications, Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations and Civil Service, as well as other unions in the ITF.
Although the police reacted promptly and stationed armed officers and men at the gates of the three offices, the surging workers defiled them and went to forcefully seal off the gates, where they stood to raise placards bearing various anti-Anaeko slogans.
Mr. Kayode Alakija, president of the Senior Staff Association of Communications, told newsmen at the headquarters that workers decided on the option to seal off the offices and proceed on a warning strike because they had exhausted all avenues of negotiation with the management
