Nigeria’s Armed Forces High Command has made drastic changes in the leadership structure of the military operations against Boko Haram in the North-East.
The move, which involves an unexpected change in field commanders in both Operation Lafiya Dole and the Multi-National Joint Task Force, according to the Defence Headquarters, will give fresh momentum to the anti-terrorism fight and help in totally crushing the Boko Haram insurgency.
Acting Director, Defence Information, Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar, said in Abuja, that the aspect of the restructuring affecting the Multi-National Joint Task Force based in N’Djamena, Chad, was designed to reposition the combat units for “more efficiency, effectiveness and battle ready in the discharge of their assigned tasks of crushing the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists.”
Specifically, Rabe disclosed that Major General Hassan Umoru, who until his appointment was the General Officer Commanding, 3rd Division of the Nigerian Army, has taken over as the new Theatre Commander for Operation Lafiya Dole.
Also, Major General Lamidi Adeosun has been appointed as the new Commander of the Multi-National Joint Task Force.   Similarly, Major General Lucky Irabor was named the Deputy Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole. All the appointments are said to be with immediate effect.
Rabe stated that “the changes are part of the reorganisation by the Defence Headquarters in line with the force restructuring of its operations to attain the overall objectives of the Chief of Defence Staff.
“The aim of this new development is to re-strategise and inject new tactics to the existing operational procedures with the aim of finally knocking out the Boko Haram terrorists, who have now devised means of hitting soft targets through suicide bombings and isolated attacks on remote villages.”
