Lagos housewife’s kidnap: Court grants 3 accused N30, 000 bail

A Surulere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday granted a N30, 000 bail to three persons includuing a woman, who allegedly kidnapped a housewife. The accused are John Emeka, 52; Bright Orouwuje, 35; and Ihuoma George, 35. The accused, whose addresses were not given, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and attempt to commit felony.
NAN reports that the trio pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.A. Famobiwo, who granted the three accused bail in the sum of N 10, 000 each, also gave them one surety each in the like sum. She said the sureties must be gainfully employed and reside within Lagos.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Clement Okuoimose told the court that the accused committed the offences at Doyin Bus Stop, Orile-Iganmu on Lagos-Badagry Expressway at 10.00 a.m. on Oct. 10. According to him, the accused, operating a commercial bus had picked a woman, Adenike Adeniyi, who boarded their vehicle at Orile Bus Stop to CMS.
“Unfortunately she boarded the bus and they took her to Ajao Estate, Isolo, and forcefully collected N15, 000 from her before she was able to escape. “The woman later sighted the three accused at the same spot where she was picked and raised an alarm which led to their arrest.’’ The offences violated Sections 285(9), 404 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
NAN also reports that Section 404 prescribes seven years for attempt to commit felonies, while Section 409 stipulates two years for conspiracy. Section 285 (9) provides seven years for stealing by agents. The case was adjourned to Nov. 9 for mention.
