AN ally of embattled former Petroleum Resources minister, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, Mr. Kola Aluko may soon be on the way to join her in the United Kingdom.
The UK, yesterday, requested Mutual Legal Assistance from the Attorney General’s Office in Switzerland for his extradition.
Aluko is alleged to launder money for the former minister.
In an email to a New-York-based online news agency, Nathalie Guth of the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland confirmed Uk’s request.
“I can give you the additional information, that the OAG has received a request for mutual assistance from England.”
This communication from the Swiss Attorney General’s Office contradicts reports earlier from Reuters that it was Nigeria which had initially requested assistance from Switzerland.
The request to the office of the Swiss Attorney General was necessitated by unconfirmed reports that Aluko had been arrested by Swiss authorities.
Alison-Madueke and four others are confirmed to have been arrested by agents attached to the National Crime Agency (NCA) in the UK for bribery and other financial crimes.
