1000 Displaced Borno Women Get Cash Support From VSF

A total number of 1000 women selected from 10 camps of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, were each yesterday handed a N20,000 credit facility, by the Victim Support Fund (VSF), to enable them start small businesses of their choice.
The VSF, operating under the Nigeria Foundation for the Support of Victims of Terrorism says it has a one year budget to empower 5000 internally displaced women from across the six states of the volatile northeast Nigeria.
The Executive Director of the VSF, Professor Sunday Ochochie, said the 1000 women selected from 10 IDP camps in Maiduguri made the first list of beneficiaries of the programme that was themed ‘Strengthening Small Scale Enterprise for 1000 Women of Insurgency in Borno state’.
“Today’s event is aimed at economically empowering women victims to help boost their various trades; as the overall goal of the project is to strengthen their business and life skills to enable them generate income and therefore improve the wellbeing of their house hold”, he said.
