Wales basks in sunshine and record high temperatures while other parts of the UK are shrouded in fog

Britain saw its warmest November weather on record on Sunday after temperatures hit 22.4C in Wales – while fog brought travel chaos to other parts of the country.

The high was recorded at Trawsgoed in west Wales at around 2pm, the Met Office said, breaking the previous November record of 21.7C, set on November 4, 1946 at Prestatyn.

A combination of high pressure and southerly winds are likely to see unusually warm weather continue across Britain for much of this week, Met Office forecasters said.

Temperatures of 16C or 17C were likely in southern Britain, compared with an average of 12C or 13C for this time of year.
Sunny spots in Wales and the south-west could even see peak temperatures to rival yesterday’s record.
In Scotland where the average for the time of year is 8C to 10C, temperatures could rise to between 13C and 15C.

But the Met Office also warned that the foggy conditions that caused dozens of cancelled flights at Heathrow airport on Sunday were likely to be seen again today.
