Police Impound 105 Okadas, Arrest 98 Riders

In a bid to promote safer Lagos, the Lagos State Joint Taskforce Team has arrested 98 riders and 105 motorcycles (okadas) for flouting the traffic Laws of the state.
The joint taskforce team comprises operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Lagos State Task Force on Environment.
The motorcycles and their riders as well as street traders were arrested during a special operation embarked upon by the law enforcement agencies for plying restricted areas in the state and hawking goods on major highways.
The okadas, their riders and street traders were arrested in areas such as Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Agege Motor roads, and Ikorodu roads on Wednesday. Others are Orile Iganmu, Costain, Mile 2, Lagos Island and Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.
The Joint Task force team headed by ACP Olatunji Disu and Supol Olubokola Abe, who led the combined team, stressed that the operation would be continuous exercise by the law enforcement agencies to ensure that road users fully complied with the State Traffic Laws and Regulations.
Disu said that preliminary investigations by the Police had revealed that robbery and other nefarious activities on the state’s highways by men of underworld were aided by the use of motorcycles.
“This operation is an in thing to bring sanity to our highways. This will be in no small measures prevent in-traffic robbery and criminal attacks on motorists and commuters, which have become a menace to the metropolis,” he said.
He noted that the Law enforcement agencies would enforce the total restriction of motorcycles on all the unapproved routes and expressways in the state.
The impounded motorcycles and their riders had been handed over to the Lagos State Task Force on Environment for necessary legal action.
