Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari  has insisted that for states to achieve meaningful development they must stop over reliance on oil revenue as the sole source of financing their activities.
Masari sated this yesterday while inaugurating a committee to look into the state investment and organize economic summit that would expose the many potentials of the state.
He noted that the establishment of the committee has become necessary because of the dwindling revenue accruing to the state from the federation account, adding that alternative sources must be explored.
According to him Katsina state is an agrarian state that is sitting on vast mineral resource which he said made it imperative for the state to develop agriculture and exploration of these mineral resources.
The governor averred that the state has a lot of competent professionals and businessmen that could turn it into investment destination that could attract both local and foreign investors into the state.
Reeling out the committees terms of reference, Masari stated that the committee is to review previous investment and economic summit documents and asses the level of implementation.
Similarly, the governor said the committee is to develop or review the state’s investment profile, develop or update the state investment policy and incentives, organize an investment and economic summit capable of attracting investors to the state and summit comprehensive report of the summit.
Responding the chairman of the committee, Alhaji Ibrahim Tukur Jikamshi has assured the governor that the committee would do all within its powers to produce plausible alternative economic sources for the state.
He appealed to all ministries and government agencies in the state to cooperate with the committee by furnishing it with relevant and required data in the discharge of its assignments.
