The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has revealed the country is shopping for “heavyweight” coaches to help solve the Super Eagles lack of goals under coach Sunday Oliseh.
Nigeria have managed only four goals in five competitive matches since Oliseh took charge of the three-time African champions
“Our coach (Sunday Oliseh) is a very sound coach, but we have to develop a way to score goals and that is why we are looking at some heavyweight coaches to help us in this regard,” NFF boss Pinnick said.
Oliseh remains unbeaten in competitive matches, but most Nigerians are still not convinced he is the man to lead the country out of the woods because their performances have been labored against the likes of Swaziland and Tanzania.
Next year will most certainly test the capability of Oliseh, a former Eagles skipper and television pundit, as Nigeria will battle Egypt for a place at the 2017 AFCON in Gabon as well as begin their qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Meanwhile, NFF is proposing friendlies against Italy and African champions Cote d’Ivoire in the New Year, according to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president.
NFF boss Amaju Pinnick disclosed in an interview that the federation’s match agent has already began discussions with both teams for the friendlies.
“Nothing has been concluded yet but we wish to play reigning African champions Cote d’Ivoire in London. There is a proposal to play Italy, who is excited about playing Nigeria after we defeated Cameroon recently,” disclosed Pinnick.
“We want to make the most every FIFA friendly window by playing top quality matches.”
There will be two FIFA friendly windows in the first half of the new year, at the end of March, when Nigeria battle Egypt in 2017 AFCON qualifiers home and away and then between June 8 and 16.
There will be another FIFA window between August 31 and September 8.
