Plans mini-convention

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) may convene a mini-convention to fill offices left vacant by some members who were nominated as ministers by President Muhammadu Buhari.
A major agenda would be to fill the post of National Publicity Secretary occupied by Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who is now a minister-designate representing Kwara State in the federal cabinet.
Daily Sun gathered that the party is looking for a professional to replace Mohammed with at least, four members in contention.
Candidates being considered are Mohammed’s deputy, Mr. Timi Frank, Lagos State spokesperson of the party, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, his Ogun State counterpart, Mr. Sola Lawal and the spokesman of the defunct Congress of Democrat for Change (CPC), Mr. Rotimi Fasakin.
Igbokwe, an activist, a writer, a publisher and commentator/analyst is from Anambra State but has been the party’s spokesman in Lagos.
Also, Lawal, who has been holding sway for the party in Ogun State since 2002, is also in the race. A journalist, Lawal, a graduate of English from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), was once with the rested Concord newspapers and later the Post Express newspaper before he took a leave of absence in 1999 to partake in politics.
Lawal, from Ife, Osun State, contested the Osun East Senatorial party primaries in 2015. He is also a vocal political analyst, public commentator and an erudite scholar of progressives’ extraction.
Fasakin is a brilliant writer, analyst and clever populist of the CPC extraction who promoted the party under the leadership of the present President, Muhammadu Buhari, when they were together in the defunct party that is now an integral part of the APC.
Timi Frank is also a strong contender as he is the current deputy to Mohammed.
A source close to the Abuja headquarters of the party told Daily Sun that some of the criteria the party would use in getting a suitable replacement include party loyalty, understanding the workings of the party and consistency in party affairs
