Troops of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army on counter-insurgency operations in Borno state codenamed ‘Operation Lafiya Dole’ yesterday said its personnel unearthed several explosives planted on a major road by Boko Haram members, even as five fleeing insurgents were nabbed.
Media coordinator of the operation, Col. Tukur Gusau, disclosed this in a statement, saying the operations were conducted
differently by the troops of 5 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and 115 Task Force Battalion under 7 Brigade Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
“The troops of 5 Brigade of the Nigerian Army clearing Boko Haram terrorist camps in Kerenowa town, has also embarked on clearance of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) buried along the road that links New Marte-Dogongida-Kerenowa in Borno state. The troops have also been working tirelessly to destroy all IEDs making facilities found in the area.
“In a related development, troops of 115 Task Force Battalion under 7 Brigade Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) while on clearance patrol, along Kukawa and Gudunbali areas of Borno state arrested five fleeing suspected Boko Haram terrorists and family of a Boko Haram terrorist who fled and abandon them due to military offensive. The family includes a woman and four children. The family are currently being catered for and investigated in a military facility”, the statement further added.
